Alexander Vocking
Double bass

 
Alexander Vocking is an active member of OTRA since february 2008. He was only 16 when he first joined the orchestra!
Alexander started his musical carrier with classical guitarlessons from Coen Beijer at the age of 5. He joined the Cathedral Choir School in Utrecht when he was 8 years old. Singing and voicebuilding are central issues on this school.
At the age of 8 he also started classical doublebass lessons. At first with Chris Heilbron and later with Finne van der Maar. When he started to play the doublebass he also continued to play the classical guitar but after two years the doublebass became more and more important and when he also started to join a youth orchestra he stopped playing guitar.
 
When he was 10 he started to follow lessons with Peter Leerdam at the Rotterdam Conservatoire. First in junior class, later he joined the Havo voor Muziek en Dans. The Havo voor Muziek en Dans offers higher secondary general education combined with a preliminary specialist study for music and dance. Besides the normal havo subjects the students follows music lessons during five years in various music disciplines from teachers of the Rotterdam Conservatoire.
 
At the moment Alexander he is in his first year of studying at Codarts, the Rotterdam Conservatoire. His classical teacher still is Peter Leerdam. He also studies at the Tango Department and will be studying with Matthew Midgley.
 
Alexander played in various (youth)orchestras among which the Domstad Jeugd Orkest, the Orchestra of the Preparatory course of the Rotterdam Conservatoire and the Dutch National Youth Orchestra (Jeugdorkest Nederland), in which he still plays. He also plays as a substitute in other Youth Orchestras.
He is also a member of the Rotterdam Bass Ensemble of the Doublebass class of Peter Leerdam.
 
And now he plays and performs with OTRA and along the way he gets introduced in the tango-music. He played in a tango-sextet with Leo Vervelde in “The Art of Blending”, composed bij Paul van Brugge in Apeldoorn in september 2008.
